Bacterial Vaginosis
When bacterial vaginosis infects a woman, a number of symptoms will manifest themselves. One of the most apparent symptoms of this condition is a fishy smell, an intense odor that is associated with the disease. Since the intensity of this odor is overwhelming, it is likely to affect the woman concerned emotionally as the condition will lower her self-esteem.
But it should be understood by the affected woman that the odor is not necessarily due to bad hygiene, although that is one of the causes for bacterial vaginosis to manifest itself, but rather it is the infection which is causing the bad smell.
As mentioned earlier, this smell can cause serious psychological problems to the woman concerned. Because of the bad smell she may suffer from depression and would refuse to socialize with people. At such times we have to reassure the concerned woman that hers is not an isolated case, as many women suffer from this condition. This is a common symptom with a huge number of women suffering from it annually.
The other symptoms of this condition include itching and a burning sensation in the vaginal and vulva region of the affected woman. Though the burning sensation and itching in themselves do not necessarily indicate the vaginosis, these are usually associated with the condition. Sometimes a detailed medical study may be required to arrive at the conclusion that she is suffering from this condition, though when the horrible smell is present along with itching and burning sensation, it is highly indicative of the infection

Bacterial vaginosis…this article made me remember one course i did in my 1st semester 200L(MCB 201)…infact,there are many things that is atributd to bacteria organism apart frm being simple,small(cnt be seen with an ordinary naked eye),they can be concluded dat dey are evrywhere and av economic importance i.e both d benefial and harmful roles)..for the fact that they cause alot of diseases like typhoid fever,cholera,dysentery,gonorrhoea,whooping cough,cattarh,tuberculosis and co….they tend to be useful in food fermenting,synthesis of drugs like antibiotics which emzor cud confirm that…i think the bad smel causd by bacteria results firstly frm inflammation…emzorites,all we need is to avoid this by eating gud food by nt exposing it to air…emzor,thanx for this bacterial vaginosis article cos i luv the study of bacteria(bacteriology)…i wnt mre article on bacteria,luv yu..

Good one but what is the cure??…any drugs?
Yes there are treatments. A course of metronidazole tablets is the common treatment. Metronidazole is an antibiotic and It clears BV in most cases and is very effecitve.
Metronidazole vaginal gel or clindamycin vaginal cream placed inside the vagina can be used as an alternative trestment
***One should ALWAYS consult a doctor before treatment. For pregnant women this is an absolute must and also for those who might be on contraceptive pills..as antibiobics interfere with the action of contraceptive pills.

Its amazing how many women live in the stigma of infections like this. Iv not really heard about this particular one but it sure is spooky. Is it an STI?
some activities or behaviors can upset the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina and put women at increased risk . Sex is one of those activities. but since one can get VB through other means i wouldnt quite classify it as an STI. although some other people consider it one. its still a debate.

Hmmm… This sure explains the persistent repulsive odor of one woman i used to know. How exactly is it contacted and can a man get infected? Is it lethal? So many things ild love 2 know about it. Emzor rocks!
